Orthopedic Rehabilitation Program
HealthSouth of Mechanicsburg's Orthopedic Program provides the comprehensive medical, therapeutic, educational, and support services patients need to reach their maximum level of functional independence.
Who should be referred?
HealthSouth's Orthopedic Program is designed for individuals with multi-trauma, hip fractures, and total joint replacements that contribute to limitation in functional areas.
Program Components
- Comprehensive Evaluations (by all treatment team members)
- Comprehensive Medical Management
- Mobility, home, and community skills training
- Self care training
- Use of therapeutic modalities
- Home safety assessment
- Case Management
- Weekly Teem Meeting/Family Conference (as needed)
- Leisure Skills and Vocational Assessments (as needed)
- Comprehensive Outpatient Services
Goals
To maximize recovery, patients are generally admitted to our inpatient Orthopedic Rehabilitation Program on post-op day three.
Treatment starts on day one. For patients able to tolerate this aggressive, intensive program, successful outcomes are generally achieved in a short period of time. Patients are then referred for outpatient services.
Inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation focuses on

- Strength
- Range of Motion
- Gait
- Activities of Daily Living
Services
HealthSouth has an interdisciplinary team approach to the rehabilitation of orthopedic patients. Led by a physiatrist, the team is comprised of rehabilitation nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and case managers.
